Key accountabilities
Forklift operators are responsible for moving stock to various locations, replenishment of stock for order picking, putting away stock when received into the warehouse, loading and unloading trucks/containers in a manner that a manner that meets company standards for safety, security, and productivity. Forklift operators are responsible for placing stock in correct locations, ensuring that the correct number and type of product, assemble various types of merchandise for shipment, carry or transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms with material handling equipment, pack/repack and weigh any orders that require such handling when necessary. Report quality variances and ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
Forklift Operators require the following competencies:
- Efficiently move and transport stock to designated locations in a safe, accurate manner
- Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area
- Conduct equipment safety checks
- Report variances in quality, quantity
- Conduct operations in compliance with safety standards and promotes safety
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage
- Responsible for the completeness and correctness of all orders
- Practice, follow and maintain all hygiene protocols and procedures
- Check the quality of shipments
- Pick product in a manner that does not damage it
Equipment:
Use of reach and counterbalance forklifts, electric tuggers, pallet jacks, box cutters, manual and automated shrikwrap equipment.
Personal Requirements:
- adhere accurately to clothing and safety requirements
- a good awareness and attitude towards workplace safety
- work in chilled and ambient temperature environment (0 to -24 degrees)
- work on rotating shifts
- able to work from Monday – Friday
- experience with RF and Voice Picking
- work at a fast pace
- work requiring repetitive manual handling (10-25kg’s)
- stacking products in cold stores
- operating Electronic Pallet Movers (Tuggers) and Forklifts
- a high level of physical fitness
- to enjoy practical and manual work
- the ability to work quickly and consistently for long periods
- have high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- able to cope with the physical demands of the job
- able to work standing up for most of the day
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (Written/Verbal)
- Count and recognise numbers
Specific Skills and knowledge:
- You can work as a Picker without any formal qualifications and get training on the job. You will improve your chances for getting work if you possess a valid drivers license and have knowledge and previous work experience.
